The first Chairman was Richard Riley, and initially the society just showed 8mm films at people's houses.
In 1987 the society moved up to the Labour Club where six films were shown per year. They moved to Chorley Little Theatre in 1991 showing the classic movie Citizen Kane. Tickets were priced at £2.50.
Throughout the 1990s the society got bigger screens and newer films, and in 1997 were able to upgrade to all the latest equipment after a successful Lottery bid.
Since then the society has upgraded to bigger, brighter projectors, installed surround sound and now shows films in stunning high definition.
In 2008 Chorley Film Society were the winners of a prestigious Film Society and Cinema award as well as a community commendation.
