There was excitement at the theatre on Monday night when we welcomed movie star and theatrical legend Sir ian McKellen to the building.
Sir Ian is patron of the Little Theatre Guild and was in Wigan to reveal a plaque in his honour so popped by Chorley Little Theatre to see a rehearsal of our upcoming production of Sherlock Holmes.
McKellen, best known for his roles as Magneto in the X-Men films and Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, is starring as Sherlock Holmes in his new film Mr Holmes, out next week so this tied in very nicely.
Upon arriving at the theatre, Ian was given a tour of Chorley Little Theatre by CADOS Chairman Ian Robinson, which included looking round the dressing rooms, wardrobe and seeing the old proscenium arches from when the venue first opened in 1910.
There was a chance for cast and crew to meet him, in which Mr Holmes met our own Mr Holmes, the actor Dave Reid. Then it was on to the main event of the evening, a rehearsal of Acts III and IV.
We're delighted that he enjoyed the performance, declaring it "riveting" and professionally done.
By far the biggest star ever to come to Chorley Little Theatre, we'd like to thank Sir ian McKellan for showing an interest in us.
