We were delighted to win 8 awards at the recent NODA District 6 ceremony in Southport. Honours were split between CADOS and Chorley Youth Theatre with 4 wins each and between them the groups got a massive 38 nominations.

The National Operatic and Dramatic Association is the overseeing body for amdram groups, and this ceremony is like the Oscars of the amateur world, with groups right across Lancashire and Merseyside competing for trophies.

Chorley Youth Theatre won three awards for their production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, with trophies for Best Staging and for Kira Brookfield as the villainous Ursula, and Miranda Entwistle as Sebastian The Crab. The show was directed by Youth Theatre chairperson Sammi Offord. Lucy McManus won for her lead role in the play Bad Girls, staged last January and directed by Kira Brookfield.

In the adult categories, Dave Reid won Best Actor for the second year in a row. Having won for Sherlock Holmes last year, this time it was for his portrayal of Alan Turing in Breaking The Code. He's clearly Chorley's answer to Benedict Cumberbatch, and returns to the role of Sherlock in this June's production from CADOS.

CADOS newcomer Laina Grimshaw-Brown won an award with Steven Catterall for their parts of Flip and Flop in The Elves And The Shoemaker, which had also been nominated for Best Panto.

The "rip-snortingly funny" thriller The 39 Steps won for Best Production and Best Director, Sean Duxbury. The entire cast were also nominated for acting awards.

CADOS Chairman Ian Robinson was delighted with the results. "We always aim for high-quality productions and the number of nominations shows the depth and variety of what we stage. We've had a really good year of great shows with increased audiences so the awards are really the icing on the cake for everyone's hard work"

Sadly the Youth Theatre members couldn't be there on the night as they were performing their latest play The Demon Headmaster to a sellout crowd, but they'll be staging their own mini ceremony at an upcoming meeting.

Acting nominees Susan Hilton and Diane Glover can next be seen in the CADOS production Steel Magnolias at the end of February.
