AUDITION NOTICE (Not including the part of Little Voice)

‘The Rise and Fall of Little Voice’ by Jim Cartwright

Directed by Robert Walsh

Produced by Rachel Offord

Production Dates – Monday 11th to Saturday 16th September

Date and time of audition – Sunday 14th May, 10am – 1pm

The play

Little Voice is a modern day classic. It is a working class fairy-tale about a girl with extraordinary talent. Berated by her mother, Little Voice hides in her room locked away with her father’s old record collection. She comforts herself with perfect imitations of the likes of Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe. It is only when she is ‘discovered’ by the washed up talent agent Ray Say that she is manipulated to perform for an admiring audience, which starts the downward spiral of an innocent girl. Funny, tragic and a cabaret performance all rolled into one. What’s not to like!

The audition process

Extracts of the play are provided so no preparation is needed for the day. Just turn up and give it your best!

The Parts

The part of Little Voice has already been cast, with the exceptionally talented Eleanor Anderton taking on the role. Detailed below are the parts you can audition for:

Part

M/F

Playing age

Description

Mari Hoff

F

Late 30s – 50s

Arguably the lead acting role in the play. Mari is a chain smoking, alcoholic, bubbly woman. She is past her prime and completely un-hinged. Strong performer needed with the ability to play a serious and strong comedic role.

Ray Say

M

40s – 50s

Main role. Ray Say is a small town celebrity. He has the swagger and confidence that attracts those who can’t see he’s a waste of space. Strong performer needed with the ability to play a serious and comedic role.

Sadie

F

30 +

Supporting role. Mari’s neighbour. An unintelligent woman who is very loyal to Mari despite her stating that she is “too fat to be my friend.” Comedic role.

Billy

M

18 – early 20s

Supporting role. Hopelessly shy young man. Can only be himself around LV. Subtle, sincere performance needed.

Mr Boo/

Phone Man

M

30 +

Supporting roles. Mr Boo is the talentless but enthusiastic owner/MC of a classic northern club. Phone Man is your typical working bloke. Versatile actor needed to play both roles.

There will be a read through shortly after the audition, the date of which will be organised with the availability of the successful auditionees. Rehearsals will commence after Our House has finished its run (12th-17th June). A full rehearsal schedule will be provided at the initial read through.

I already have a fantastic young performer for the title role, now I need a full cast of talented actors to make this an exceptional production!
