‘An Inspector Calls’

Venue: Chorley Little Theatre


The play takes place in Brumley, an industrial city in the North Midlands in Spring of 1912. It revolves around the Birling family as they celebrate a special occasion.



Arthur Birling 50+, Pompous, prosperous mill owner, self-satisfied with his lot

Sybil Birling Arthur’s wife, 50+, Socially superior to her husband, rather a ‘cold fish’.

Sheila Birling 20+ Pretty, Daughter of Arthur and Sybil

Eric Birling 25+, Son of Arthur and Sybil

Gerald Croft 25+, Sheila’s boyfriend, well-bred, man about town

Edna The maid, any age

Inspector Goole Age uncertain; quietly spoken, seems to know everything. He has an air of mystery   about him; must create an atmosphere that the audience finds fascinating.
